meditations on squares (2023)
frixion pens on 9 paper sheets, 29.7x29.7cm each
drawing lines on paper slowly, as a meditative creative process where its every moment feels it’s being recorded, like ‘writing’ brain waves. Here, as it draws, the hand ‘follows’ the line that it did just before as closely as possible, responding to it. There is one rule: the lines must never touch. Sometimes they come really close, wanting to touch, so tension is created, affecting the hand movement and the action of drawing, adding to the moment’s experience. As more lines and gaps are added, another dimension is gradually being revealed: an overall texture, like sound in a space where the repetitive process has taken place.
